Jean Brown Memorial Award
Jean Brown served as the editor of the Midwest Dressage Association newsletter from November 1971 through July 1979. To stop here, however would be committing a disservice to this tireless worker on behalf of dressage. "No" was not a word in her vocabulary. Following her untimely death, Jean's family chose to honor her name. A perpetual trophy to be awarded annually to individuals for distinguished service to the Midwest Dressage Community.
This award is intended to recognize the invaluable contributions of our active members who graciously volunteer their time and skills to support the Midwest Dressage Association and its activities. To honor Jean's memory and her distinguished service, this award will be presented annually to the nominated MDA member who has the greatest number of recorded volunteer hours in the current year, determined by the Board of Directors.
Eligibility
To be considered for this award, nominees must meet the following criteria:
- Be a member in good standing with the Midwest Dressage Association.
- Accumulate the highest number of documented volunteer hours within the award year.
- May not have received this award within the past five years.
- Current MDA officers and Board members are not eligible while serving.
- In the future, a minimum number of hours may be required to qualify.
- Staffing MDA booths at expos, horse shows, or other events
- Serving on or supporting MDA committees
- Assisting with MDA shows, clinics, or programs
- Other activities the Board deems essential to MDA’s operations
Nomination & Selection
- Award year runs from September 1 (previous year) through October 1 (current year).
- Nominations are accepted from the general membership July 1 – November 1.
- Final selection is made by the MDA Board of Directors.
- The award is presented at the Annual Awards Banquet to honor the member’s contributions.
